1st, 2nd, and 3rd Person Explained (Simple)

1️⃣ First Person – “I / we”

You are talking about yourself.

Singular (I)

yo = I
Example:
Yo hablo español. → I speak Spanish.

Plural (we)

nosotros / nosotras = we
Example:
Nosotros vivimos aquí. → We live here.

2️⃣ Second Person – “you”

You are talking to someone.

Singular (you – informal)

= you
Example:
Tú comes pan. → You eat bread.

Singular (you – polite/formal)

usted = you (formal)
Example:
Usted trabaja aquí. → You work here.

Plural (you all)

Spain: vosotros / vosotras
Latin America: they use ustedes for all plurals
Example (Spain):
Vosotros habláis rápido. → You all speak fast.
Example (LatAm / also correct in Spain):
Ustedes hablan rápido. → You all speak fast.

3️⃣ Third Person – “he / she / they”

You are talking about someone else.

Singular

él = he
Example:
Él corre mucho. → He runs a lot.

ella = she
Example:
Ella bebe agua. → She drinks water.

Plural

ellos = they (masculine or mixed)
Example:
Ellos estudian juntos. → They study together.

ellas = they (only women)
Example:
Ellas cantan bien. → They sing well.
